Tips and Tricks

PLEASE NOTE: These digital video segments are a reproduction of the Rulebooks CD displayed on a computer flat screen. This "picture of a picture" may result in a slight loss of screen resolution.

Video Tip 01

Getting Started.

Turn on your speakers.

Insert CD into drive. Autorun up to the Introduction page. Click the Proceed to Program button and go through the doorway and into the program.

To resize your display screen to full screen, right-click out on your desktop, select Properties and change your Settings (to either 640x480 pixels or 800x600 pixels). When you leave the program, you may reverse the process or reboot your machine to its previous screen size default settings.

Use the scrollbar to scan the Table of Contents page. You are ready to go.

Video Tip 02

Explore the Rule, CBT and Video Indexes.

Navigate around inside Rule 3: digital video clips, alternative rule references, ARs by using the  NextPage/PreviousPage arrows, the blue links and the GoBack button.

Click the Referee icon to return to the Table of Contents. Go directly to Video 3 Outline.

Open CBT 7 (Computer Based Training) to fill in the blanks.

Open Rule 9-1-1. Click a Signal Jump.

Video Tip 03

Make use of the program features.

Open the Word/Phrase Type-in Search feature. Search for a Word, a Word/Phrase (more than one word must be bracketed in quotes) or by  Referee. Size the Word/Phrase box. Move the box on and off the screen.

Open Video 7 and click in a few screens by using the forward arrow. Set-up the Recent Pages feature to bounce from Video Outline to clip, clip back to Video Outline.

Video Tip 04

Your confidence is rising. Get ready to Specialize.

Open Rule 7 and start moving around. Remind yourself what you might be seeing at your next assignment. That's what the Video Log by Position is for. Repetition, repetition, repetition. Your auditory, tactile, kinesthetic and visual senses are getting sharper. Let the clips take-up residence in your psyche. Study the crew mechanics. Get a sense for presence, style, timing, body language, demeanor, verbal and non-verbal skills.

Use the Game Summary as a Word/Phrase Search Reference Guide to search for video clips by Referee, school or game number.

Click the football icon to see an NCAA Referee Roster.

Use the PrintScreen feature to print text.

Video Tip 05

Get the most bang for your buck. Other features.

Open the Summary of Penalties with Rule links and Signal links.

Click Index to Rules with Rule links.

Wrap up this demo by viewing the Rulebooks.Com Top 8 List - Caught on Tape! (Another good place to use the Recent Pages shortcut back to that outline.) No clips linked to rules there.

Good Luck.
